On to Dallas....

Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what order to post all of the fun activities from this past weekend in Dallas. Do I post in chronological order or do I start with the results of the state gymnastics meet since that is the reason we made the trip in the first place? Well, I've been able to sort through those pics easier so I decided to post about the meet. The state meet is a little different than the other meets during the year. The top 60% of the athletes will medal in any given event. They ranked them on each event from 1-24 (I think), they were ranked in order of score and the first 8 girls were given gold division medals and the second set of 8 received silver division medals and the remaining 8 received bronze medal division medals. If you did not place in the top 24 then you did not get a medal in that event. It makes it kind of fun knowing that they weren't just going to give the top three medals like at the Olympics....that kind of ranking will happen later. They did give everyone an all around medal, so even if you did not place in the top 60%, you did receive a medal at the meet. Holley earned three medals!!! You'll have to read further to read about what color and what event (s).

This is Holley's level 5 beam routine at the state meet in Dallas, Tx. She did an awesome job. She placed 6th overall in this event and was awarded a gold division medal. She scored a 9.05 on this event. Coach Kristin was very pleased...

This is Holley's level 5 floor routine at the state meet in Dallas, Tx. She placed 8th overall in this event and was awarded a gold division medal. This was the very first event of the meet and she stood up extremely well under the pressure. She scored a 9.3 on this event.

The vault did not go overly well. She scored a 7.2 which is one of her lowest scores all season. She said she just wasn't "on" in that event. The uneven bars have been Holley's arch enemy all season long. She still is unable to do her kip, for those of you who do not know, I posted a blog in Sept (?) showing her bar routine and the kip....well, if you don't have your kip that is automatically 4 points off, and for whatever reason she was unable to make the jump from the low bar to the high bar. She tried and fell off twice before getting it on the third try. That is a really good thing about her coach...she makes them keep trying until the get it, even in competition. I've never seen her miss the jump to the high bar so I don't know where that came from. She was still reeling a little from the vault. But she pulled it together to do a very good beam routine to finish it out. She scored in the bronze division for the all around score, mostly due to the 4.0 she got on the bars. Oh well, she'll get that stinking kip someday...I was very proud of her and of her team mates who did great jobs as well. Stay tuned for Scott's birthday surprise in Dallas on Friday night....work tomorrow ...please pray it is not icy on the roads, it sure is COLD outside!!! Love, S
